You cannot shop at any IKEA distribution center. Distribution centers have only been made available so that deliveries can be swift. You can only get most of IKEA’s items through online purchases or physical stores.

If you made a purchase online, IKEA would track your location using the ZIP code you provided to the nearest distribution center and send out your delivery if stocks are available.

What Distribution Channel Does Ikea Use?

IKEA has a distribution channel that includes manufacturers, dealers, wholesalers, retailers, and consumers.

For products to be transported, IKEA uses third-party logistics companies.

IKEA recently created the distribution strategy of using third-party logistics companies like DHL supply chains to transport products to different IKEA locations.

IKEA has 28 warehouses and distribution centers controlling the transport process in 16 countries.

Can I Return Items At Ikea Warehouse?

You can return items at the IKEA warehouse. IKEA has a return policy for purchased products. 

For new and unopened products, you have up to a year (365 days) from the day of purchase to return them to IKEA.

For opened products, you have 180 days to return the products. According to IKEA, receiving a 100% refund on both opened and unopened items is possible.

There are some things you have to note if you’d like to return an item you purchased from IKEA.

They include:

  • You won’t be able to refund plants, cut fabrics, and countertops that have been customized.
  • If you’ve changed an item, you cannot return it.
  • If an item is damaged, you cannot return it.
  • If you want to return assembled items that are still functional, you have to participate in IKEA’s Buy Back and Resell initiative.

The BuyBack and Resell IKEA created an initiative to be climate-friendly. It allows you to put old furniture you purchased from IKEA up for resale.

You must follow the steps below to participate in IKEA’s Buy-Back and Resell initiative.

#1. Step 1 

First, you have an IKEA family member.

#2. Step 2

Fill out the online buy-back form. After filling out the form, you’ll get a quote.

#3. Step 3

If your furniture is acceptable, you’ll be offered store credit. 

#4. Step 4

Go to your participating location with proof of the quote IKEA gave you.

Note that you cannot resell items like electrical appliances, drawer chests, sofas, armchairs, glass items like mirrors, beds, bed frames, and furnishing accessories.
